An artist's tool needs to function optimally to allow the artist to perform optimally. And, like any tool, musical instruments require
a certain amount of servicing.
Musical instruments, as a result
of being constructed out of delicately proportioned organic
materials and because of the wear and tear of usage, will
develop a certain amount of naturally occurring damage. Wood
is a ‘living’ material,
which expands and contracts with changes in temperature and
humidity. This natural movement puts considerable strain on
the structure of an instrument. So instruments will develop
cracks and seams and joints may well part.
All of this is easily covered in my well-appointed workshop.
There is a full range of tools and jigs to cater for any repair,
restoration or servicing situation and facilities to manufacture
tools and jigs designed for specialised
tasks.
